Irene Anton
Berlin, Germany
Irene Anton (*1966, Darmstadt, Germany) is a Berlin-based artist working across installation, object, relief, assemblage, and collage. After studying Fashion and Textile Design at the Berlin University of the Arts (UdK), graduating in 1994, her practice gradually evolved from design toward the visual arts. She later continued her studies in the UdK master's program Art in Context, specialising in exhibition-making, community arts, and artistic interventions in public space.
At the core of Anton's practice is transforming found, discarded, and broken materials. Through collecting, reassembling, and recontextualising, she gives overlooked objects new aesthetic and conceptual value, combining an interest in sustainability with a poetic exploration of memory, materiality, and change. Her works often develop as open-ended processes, embracing experimentation and continuous transformation.
Since 1994, her work has been presented in numerous exhibitions and projects in Germany and internationally.

Artist Statement
Intervention Invading Network No. 74 is a site-specific installation by Irene Anton created for Underground Garden during Berlin Art Week 2026. Constructed from reclaimed and repurposed materials, the work unfolds as an expanding network that appears to spread through and inhabit the exhibition space.
Blurring the boundaries between organic growth and human-made structures, the installation reflects on processes of transformation, adaptation, and interconnectedness. In the context of Underground Garden, Invading Network No. 74 evokes hidden systems that develop beneath the surface, suggesting both nature's resilience and the potential for renewal within overlooked materials and environments.
